How to seed bank when you can’t bank seeds

Like many large, fatty seeds, macadamia nuts are not easy to store longer than a few years and still grow into a tree. This project looks at alternative ways of storing macadamia genetic material so that macadamias can be added to the world’s seed banks.

New Macadamia jansenii population found

MCT is proud to announce that on the 11 September 2018, Keith Sarnadsky discovered a new population of Macadamia jansenii. Thanks to FAME, MCT was able to commission Keith to search for new populations. He set about the task with characteristic thoroughness, combining his knowledge of the preferred habitat of M. jansenii and the vegetation in Bulburin National Park with detailed mapping available from Queensland Globe.

FAME takes on the protection of the rarest Macadamia!

MCT brokers partnership to protect the rarest macadamia
