Our Organisation

You are here: Home / About Us / Our Organisation

In July 2025, the Macadamia Conservation Trust  becomes Wild Macadamia Conservation, an independent charity and registered environmental organisation dedicated to:

Supporting and conserving Australian wild macadamia trees and their native habitat.

We remain a group of people dedicated to protecting wild macadamias. We love to find out more about them and their forest homes. We work to make sure that the four species of Macadamia and their habitats continue to exist and flourish into the future.

We started as an informal Macadamia Conservation Committee in 2004 and became the Macadamia Conservation Trust in 2007, to raise funds to support macadamia conservation. Our Trustee for 18 years was the Australian Macadamia Society, peak body for the Australian macadamia industry.

With the help of our supporters, we maintain a government-endorsed Recovery Plan that guides our conservation activities.

This is the Wild Macadamia Conservation strategic plan for 2024 – 2029:

VISION: Wild macadamias are protected forever.

MISSION: Drive the recovery of Australia’s wild macadamia species through collaborative research, advocacy and on-ground action.

GOALS:

  1. Wild Macadamia Conservation is acknowledged and respected as the principal macadamia conservation organisation in Australia
  2. Conservation outcomes are being delivered for wild macadamia populations.
  3. Genetic diversity of wild macadamias is protected.

STRATEGIC PRIORITIES:

  1. WMC is an effective, well-governed, forward-thinking, independent organisation.
  2. WMC raises funds through donations and grants to support our vision.
  3. WMC builds the capacity of people and organisations to deliver conservation outcomes on the ground.
  4. WMC drives strategic habitat restoration and management of threats to improve habitat condition and maintain genetic diversity.
  5. WMC drives germplasm protection through living and stored collections.
  6. WMC encourages and facilitates strategic research on wild macadamias.
  7. WMC provides secretariat and custodianship services for the National Recovery Plan and Recovery Team for Macadamia Species.
  8. WMC’s primary audiences are inspired, aware and engaged in wild macadamia conservation.
